What is China REACH?
On October 15, 2010
the reviewed version of the "Measures on Environmental Administration of New
Chemical Substance (Order No. 7)" of the Ministry of Environmental Protection
(MEP) came into effect.
In this regulation, which is called China REACH
due to its similarities to EU REACH, chemical substances are being divided into
existing and new chemicals. Before a company is allowed to manufacture or import a
new chemical into the Chinese market it is required to do a notification of this
chemical with the Chemical Registration Centre (CRC) of the MEP.
Both under The program
was updated in 2017. In this update, the minimum requirements for toxicological
and eco-toxicological information for notification were reviewed as well as the
criteria under which a test has to be conducted. Since January 01, 2018 a new
inventory for restricted chemicals was issued in which substances that are exempted
from notification are listed.
